I am quite surprised at how good the images are that I’m getting, especially jpegs. I’m used to shooting raw because I get better files and can squeeze a bit more juicy goodness out of my photos that in-camera jpeg processing does. Surprisingly, this camera does a great job with jpegs in good light situations. That’s the important idea to keep in mind, good light. Kirk Tuck gives this camera a fine review, but realize that he’s a lighting pro, who has written several (good) books on the subject.
IMO this camera is targeted toward two markets. For those moving up from a point and shoot, it’s wonderful. It’s familiar and less intimidating than an SLR. It can create better images than even the best point and shoots. The price is reasonable. It’s attractive and it’s a lot lighter than an SLR. Those people wouldn’t consider shooting in bad light without a flash. They wouldn’t consider deliberate long exposures to smooth motion effects. Those last two areas are not the camera’s… Read more

Really great innovations in digital photography have let camera manufacturers to create a compact digital camera with interchangeable lens. Although there are still a lot of great point-and-shoots out there, but one striking type of camera that comes to mind is the NEX series of Sony.
The concept of the NEX series is to provide digital camera enthusiasts with DSLR image quality pictures, but without the bulky size and weight of most DSLR. In fact, the size and weight of these NEX series are just about half the size of a conventional DSLR so it is easy to use and bring anywhere.
If you are going to look for an interesting camera, the Sony Nex-5 and NEX-3 will mostly blow you away since this is first interchangeable lens that is designed to tackle continuous autofocus and exposure adjustment while recording video. It also has a 14-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor is responsible for the high quality images for both of the two cameras. It has an E-mount interchangeable lens system so you can choose the perfect lens to suit any shooting conditions, just like a DSLR. It also has a High speed burst shooting that can capture fast-moving action with rapid burst shooting up to 7 frames per second.
It can shoot fantastic photos, with its 16-24mm equiv lens, also has an HD video, innovative controls, panoramic shooting mode, creates sharp photos, and it also has cool screen flexibilities. In terms of specifications the NEX-5 and NEX-3 are essentially identical. However, NEX-5gets slightly smaller magnesium alloy body, an infrared remote receiver and 1080i AVCHD movie recording. Although the two cameras have 50% sensors larger than the Micro Four Thirds format, but they are still built smaller and thinner.
Some may feel scared holding it and may think that the lens may take the weight of the body on the contrary, it is easy to hold and encourages a stable two-handed grip. Panasonic today announced the world’s first Micro Four Thirds system camera, the LUMIX DMC-G1, the world’s smallest and lightest digital interchangeable lens camera, weighing in at approximately 385 grams (0.85 lbs).* Based on the new Micro Four Thirds System standard, the LUMIX G1 eliminates the internal mirror structure that defines digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, thus reducing the size and weight by nearly half.** With the mirror-less system, the G1′s flange back, which is the distance between the mount and the image sensor, has been reduced from 40 mm — as specified in the Four Thirds System — to approximately 20 mm.
The new Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G1 will enhance the advanced photo quality and flexibility made possible by the Four Thirds™ System, and with its innovative design, consumers will appreciate the portability of a smaller camera body and lenses. The G1′s compact size can also be attributed to its electronic full-time Live View Finder, as opposed to a conventional optical viewfinder. The electronic Live View Finder, with an impressive and high-resolution 1,440,000-dot equivalent, allows the user to shoot the exact image the camera sees while also displaying information about the camera’s settings through the view finder. The G1 also features a clever built-in eye sensor, so the camera can detect when the user is nearing the view finder and automatically switches off the LCD, thus conserving battery life. Also, the Live View Finder has a large 1.4x (0.7x on a 35mm equivalent) magnification and when using the G1 in manual focus mode, the frame in the view finder or LCD will enlarge by 5x or 10x (can adjust using the dial).
